6 places to visit in Athens

As far as I can remember I have always wanted to visit Athens and experience all the breath taking ancient buildings for myself. Last week I had the chance to spend 48 hours in the capital of Greece.  My dream became reality ☺. I have put together a list of places in Athens that are worth a visit. I hope you will get a quick overview of the most important sights.

The Temple of Olympian Zeus (Olympieion)
Only ruins remain of this temple dedicated to the god Zeus. Olympic Stadium and Hadrian's Arch are located nearby. Near Zappeion and Acropolis (station Akropoli Metro 2).
At metro station 1 & 3. It is a good place for shopping. Also check out the flea market and the neighborhood. Quick tip: The district Kolonaki is the best place to find high end fashion boutiques.
Lycabettus Hill
The hill is bordering Kolonaki district. On top of it you get a wonderful view over Athens. You can reach the top by walking (starting at Syntagma) or by a railway (7€, reduced price 5€).
Unesco World heritage side. It includes the Parthenon, the Erectheion, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Theatre of Dionysus. This place is definitely my favorite in the city and a must see! Metro station Akropoli, line 2.
Syntagma Square
Take Metro 2 or 3 to see the Parliament building. To relax and to escape the crowded square take a walk in the beautiful garden nearby.
Athens might not be the best place for a swim but the city definitely offers some nice beach areas with little restaurants (Station Faliro Metro 1).
Have you ever been to Athens? What is your favorite place?
