Falling in love with Budapest

Budapest is one of those places I wish I had visited before and it did not take me long to really fall in love with the city once we arrived. The Hungarian food, friendly people, its beautiful architecture and the sunny weather made the last past days really enjoyable. Here are my reasons why Budapest should be on top of YOUR travel wishlist.
The Food
- You cannot visit Budapest without eating traditional Hungarian dishes. I recommend eating soups, the famous goulash or Lecsó, it is so delish. There are plenty of restaurants in the jewish quarter in Pest on the eastern side of the Danube, but they are also often very touristy. I recommend going to a market hall (for example at the metro station Újbudaközpont) where locals eat. It is also pretty cheap.
- Drink Pálinka in Pest. Not my favorite to be honest, but at least I tried. The best place for taking a drink is at Deák Ferenc tér, at Budapest Eye.
The Historic buildings
- The Hungarian National Parliament building is the largest in Europe, but definitely reminds me of  London's architecture. It is huge and so worth a visit.
- Visit the Hungarian National Museum to get to know the history of Hungary.
The Activities
- Climb the  Gellért hill to the Liberty Statue at night: You will have an amazing view over the city.
- If you stay a little longer in Budapest,  I recommend visting the hills in Buda, the western part of the city (Erzsébet kilátó).
- Stay on Magaret island and relax in the large parks.
- Do a free walking tour (based on tips). I do this in every intersting city I visit and always had great experiences with them.
Get around
- Take the public transport, the infrastructure is well developed and cheap. Also, take metro line 1 (yellow line) for a historical atmosphere, it was the second underground in Europe after London.
- Cross the famous chain bridge at night, it is beautifully light up.
